Construction Accident at Water Tower Kills One, Injures Another

A construction accident claimed the life of at least one person and injured another on Friday, July 6.

The Porter Special Utility District’s general manager Richard Tram said that he heard a "loud clinging noise" that morning at the worksite on the water tower. He ran towards the banging, and was told to call for help.

“The panel was going up,” Kevin Reed said in an interview with Click2Houston, referring to a large piece of metal that he said a crane was lifting. Reed lives nearby and works in construction. “It was just dangling, then all of a sudden out of nowhere, it just collapsed into the tank. The workers were running around frantic as I came around here. You could hear the other two guys up in the tank banging and saying, ‘Don’t move the crane. Don’t do this. Don’t do that.' I then called 911.”

The investigation into the incident is currently ongoing. In a statement posted on the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office’s social media accounts, the department said that,

“Sheriff’s Office personnel along with Fire and EMS are on the scene of an industrial accident… Constructions crews were assembling a water well when a piece of side wall being installed broke free and landed on the construction crew inside the well. 2 employees were not injured, one seriously injured and 1 male is deceased.”
