Boston Scientific Under Fire After Accusations of Using Counterfeit Pellets for Pelvic Mesh

Jan 27, 2016

GavelAccording to a recent lawsuit filed by a woman in West Virginia, Boston Scientific, the maker of the Advantage mesh, is accused of using counterfeit pellets in its product. The complaint claims that the manufacturer was initially using Marlex, the initial pellets from Phillips Sumika, but when the supplier cut off its supply, Boston Scientific allegedly began using a counterfeit product from China without providing notification to women or to the FDA.

There have been tens of thousands of claims already filed against Boston Scientifics and various other pelvic mesh products. These products are supposed to help with prolapsed pelvic organs and urinary incontinence. Of the roughly 86,500 claims already filed, Boston Scientific comes up in over 19,000 of them.

If the device being implanted in women really do have counterfeit pellets, this could result in defects and device failure. This can cause significant damage in the women resulting in pain and suffering. If you have received an implant from Boston Scientific, you should speak with a lawyer about the possibility of a defective medical device claim.
