Risperdal & Gynecomastia Attorneys

Fighting For Injured Victims of Harmful Drugs

Risperdal is an antipsychotic designed to mitigate the effects of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. It was approved by the FDA in 1993 and quickly became one of the most popular antipsychotics in the United States. In 1996, a study published in The Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology discovered a link between Risperdal usage and gynecomastia (breast growth in males) due to increased levels of the hormone prolactin.

In 2006, another study published by the same journal revealed that adolescents suffered from the same effects, only a year before Johnson & Johnson would be approved to market Risperdal for use by minors.

In addition, females that took Risperdal developed galactorrhea, or abnormal levels of milk production. The conclusion of the study was that any adolescent taking Risperdal would experience harmful effects. At BPB, we provide seasoned and aggressive representation for our clients because their lives matter to us. If you or your child has suffered from gynecomastia or galactorrhea as a result of taking Risperdal, BPB is ready to fight for you.

What Is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is the abnormal growth of breast tissue in males—usually from benign tumor-like growths, as opposed to fatty tissue. In some cases, males will also suffer from galactorrhea, which is the production of milky white discharge caused by prolactin. Unfortunately, once the body begins growing abnormal tissue, surgical removal may not permanently solve the issue. The tissue may grow back, causing long-term psychological distress and body image struggles in patients.

Children are particularly vulnerable to Risperdal. When patients take medications, they expect to get better without fearing the risk of physical deformity. Pharmaceutical companies have the responsibility to make sure that the possible effects of their drugs are clearly communicated to the public, especially for drugs as popular as Johnson & Johnson’s Risperdal or Risperidone. At BPB, we understand that marketing drugs is a balance between responsibility and profitability.

Unfortunately, many pharmaceutical companies will prioritize profitability without considering their responsibility to inform the public. Our firm believes in making these corporations accountable for their actions, which often cause harm and pain to the very people they intended to help. For over 30 years, our firm has been standing up to large corporations responsible for dangerous drugs & medical devices. Schedule a free consultation with BPB today—call (888) 367-7160.
