Federal District Court for the Southern District of Texas Experience and Practice AreaLaurence spent five (5) years as a trial associate at Williams Bailey Law Firm, L.L.P. in Houston, Texas, working in the toxic tort, pharmaceutical drugs and asbestos litigation sections. During the years he spent with Williams Bailey, Laurence was responsible for the management and trial preparation of thousands of asbestos poisoning cases filed in various jurisdictions and states. He presented for deposition hundreds of plaintiffs, fact witnesses and medical and state of the art experts. During that time, Laurence negotiated multi-million dollar settlements with certain defendants liable to victims of asbestos poisoning, including the owners and operators of premises upon which the victims worked. He was involved in many asbestos trials, including the first verdict against Dow Chemical Corporation on behalf of a client with mesothelioma. Subsequently, Laurence left Williams Bailey to start his own law firm in 2003. As the managing partner the Tien Law Group, Laurence filed and handled over twenty-five consumer class action lawsuits against various mortgage companies and banking institutions. Laurence’s firm was one of the first to file consumer class action lawsuits against numerous sub prime mortgage lenders before the sub prime mortgage crisis erupted in 2006 to 2008. In April 2006, Laurence rejoined Ken Bailey, former founding partner of Williams Bailey, at the firm of Bailey Perrin Bailey. Laurence is primarily responsible for managing thousands of cases for several of the firms’ pharmaceutical drug litigations. In addition, Laurence continues to work on firms’ asbestos litigation docket, representing clients who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma and other serious lung diseases. Personal InformationLaurence grew up in Houston, Texas and is one of seven boys in his family. Laurence is a proud son of a former operator at an industrial plant in La Porte, TX. Laurence will always be an advocate of workers who make a living using their hands and feet. Laurence is married and is the proud father of two girls. |
