Experience and Practice AreaAfter twelve years as a lobbyist for Texas teachers and property-poor school districts, Donna began a second career as an attorney in 1997 after the Texas Supreme Court declared the school finance system finally passed by the Texas Legislature constitutional. Donna first practiced law in Austin, Texas under the tutelage of Diane M. Henson (currently on the Texas 3rd Court of Appeals), before becoming involved in litigation as an associate for the late Bob Provan. Their landmark case, Zamora-Quezada, et al. v. HealthTexas Medical Group of San Antonio, et al.., a federal case that challenged HMOs over their treatment of patients with disabilities and the doctors who tried to treat them. In 2001, she joined Baron and Budd, L.L.P., as a staff attorney assigned to present and defend clients for deposition, including trial preservation depositions for clients who were not expected to survive to trial due to their asbestos-related illnesses. During the six (6) years she was with Baron and Budd, Donna met and sat depositions for thousands of clients and their co-workers all over the United States and in Canada. Donna continued to present clients, co-workers, and their families for deposition from 2007 to 2009 for Brent Coon & Associates. Currently, Donna is an associate attorney with Bailey Perrin Bailey and will continue her work in representing clients, recording their testimony, and working on cases from beginning to end. Donna’s primary practice area is toxic tort law, specializing in asbestos litigation. AssociationsDonna is currently a member of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association and Houston Trial Lawyers Association. She also is on the Board of Directors of Women on the Border, a 501(c)3 nonprofit educational organization whose mission is to advance awareness about the conditions for workers in the maquiladoras at the Mexican border and to support the empowerment of working women. In her leisure time, Donna enjoys spending as much time as possible in the Austin area and is involved in local political and animal rescue groups. She also is a member of the Austin Film Society, a group which promotes the burgeoning film industry in the Central Texas area. Personal InformationDonna and her partner of nearly 15 years, Elvia, also spend as much time as possible with their dogs Ricky and Rex, and are ruled by the household cat, Roxanne. |
